SUKAN CBN is
the most ideal abrasive for processing ferrous metal, since it has high
toughness and heat resistance, chemical stability at interaction with ferrous
metal.
CBN is the second hardest known material, only diamond being harder. CBN
is synthesised from hexagonal boron nitride under conditions similar to
those used to produce synthetic diamond from graphite.
The necessary characteristics of an abrasive include high hardness, abrasion
resistance, strength and resistance to thermal and chemical attack while
maintaining sharp cutting edges during use. Compared to conventional abrasives
such as SiC and Al2O3, CBN is much more superior in all the fields. Its
high thermal stability and resistance to chemical attack make it suitable
for machining ferrous materials, an area where diamond abrasives are not
normally utilized. |
