Static
Compressive Strength
1¡¢Strength
of diamond is an important parameter to identify the quality of
diamond grits and their synthesis/selecting technology. Generally,
diamond grits with higher strength and toughness have better duration£¬
and vice versa.
2¡¢Static Compressive Strength of a single grit is its break load
under static press. We test the maximum burden vertical pressure
of diamond grits which are regarded similarly as equivalent mini-cubic
grits, such pressure is the Static compressive Strength, expressed
in unit of¡°N¡± or ¡°KG¡±.
Toughness
Index
1.
Besides high strength and superior abrasiveness, diamond grits
have an outstanding feature of high toughness index. Impact toughness
inspection shows a similar condition of diamonds¡¯ wearing away
during actual performance, thus provides a more valuable toughness
index for reference in actual utilizations.
2¡¢Testing method: To mix diamond grits with steel balls in a steel
container, measure the percentage of unbroken grits after a number
of vibrations, the Toughness Index is therefore determined. Testing
more samples quickly, this inspection gives results easily to
be statistical surveyed with less relative errors and better representation.
Thermal
Toughness Index
1¡¢
During diamond tools producing and using, diamond grits are under
high sintering or grinding heat. Good thermal stability is important
to assure good tools performance.
2¡¢Thermal Toughness Index is tested by impact instrument similarly
as Toughness Index test, but under high temperature. Impurity
1¡¢
Diamond crystal absorbs graphite and metal catalyst while being
synthesized rapidly under HTHP, therefore various kinds of crystal
defects formed. Strength of diamond goes down significantly along
with the increasing of impurities. It¡¯s an important sector diamond
research to control and measure the impurities.
2¡¢Test method: Diamond grit sample does not show its magnetism
without outer magnetic effects. While under outer magnetic effects,
the sample shows opposite magnetic charges on it¡¯s two ends. Sample
can not move under equal magnetic field, but it¡¯s magnetic charges
can be measured while sample under unequal magnetic field. Thus
the magnetic susceptibility is determined. Bulk
Density
1¡¢Bulk
Density is the natural bulk weight of a unit volume of diamond
grits in air, expressed in unit of g/cm3. As a common index indicating
the filling factor of ultra-hard materials, it reflects the density,
grit shape, grit surface shape and size constitution of grits.
It is generally adopted for inspecting products¡¯ physical performance,
and plays an important role in quality control and grading of
ultra-hard products, as well as in grinding tools manufacturing.
2¡¢Bulk Density can be measured by corresponding instrument . Through
measuring the volume and quality of a certain volume of diamond
grits or micro powder we can obtain corresponding value.
3¡¢ The following factors influence the bulk density of diamond
grits:
(1). Size and its distribution.
(2). Grain shape.
(3). Inter-influence between grains. Crystaline
Completeness
1¡¢Because
of the different synthetically conditions, synthetic diamond has
various crystal shapes, such as hexahedron, octahedron and dodecahedron,
etc. Crystalline completeness affects greatly the strength of
synthetic diamond and its products. Diamond grits with complete
crystal shape have high strength and long duration, and vice versa.
So crystalline completeness is an essential index of diamond grits
quality.
2¡¢ Crystalline completeness is measured by eyeballing, through
observing the ratio of complete crystalline under electronic microscope,
we can obtain the index of crystalline completeness.
Ratio
of Hexahedron and Octahedron 1¡¢
Because most synthetic diamond grits are in shape of hexahedron
or octahedron, content of hexahedron and octahedron crystal has
great effect on the strength of the synthetic diamond. By examining
the content ratio of hexahedron and octahedron crystalline, we
can get the strength index of synthetic diamond.
2¡¢The content ratio of hexahedron and octahedron crystal can be
determined by eyeballing. Observe and count the quantity of complete
crystal of synthetic diamond through microscope, we can get the
index of crystalline completeness.
Transparency 1¡¢
Pure diamond is completely transparent in visible light. But in
fact diamond, always with impurities and defects inside, absorbs
visible light thus becomes less transparent. We can improve the
raw materials and synthesis condition of diamond by researching
Transparency which reflects the properties and existing status
of impurities inside.
2¡¢ Transparency is measured with Fluorescent Spectrum Analysis
Instrument by irradiating diamonds with fluorescent spectrum and
determining the average transparency. Particle
Size Distribution
Synthetic
diamond was classified to grits and microns by different sizes.
Diamond grits are measured by seizing and microns by microscope.
According to sizes, big size diamond grits are used for drill
bits, sawing blades, glass knives, dressing tools and wire-drawing
dies, etc. Microns are used for PCD, fine grinding pads, grinding
paste and free grinding tools. Other grade diamonds
1¡¢ are used for various kinds of grinding wheels.
2¡¢ Measurement by seizing: To put a certain weight of diamond
into standard seize or electric shaped bolt, shake it for a certain
time. Then measure the residues and determine if the diamonds
conform to the standards.
3. Measurement by microscope: To observe the size of diamond with
biology microscope or other stereoscopic microscope, and determine
the distribution of particle sizes.
To
ensure the best quality and performance of diamond tools, SUKAN
selects the most suitable SUKAN diamond grits and microns for
various kinds of applications. Above mentioned quality control
process of diamond ensures the best performance can be reached.
Furthermore, all tools manufactured by SUKAN undergo a strict
and ongoing inspection procedure utilizing electronic, mechanical
and optical measuring systems.
SUKAN
improves the quality of diamond tools with customer¡¯s help. While
getting a lot of performance report of diamond tools on various
kinds of working situation, we are continuously improving the
tools to fit every specific working condition.
